Like the part about the corrupt counselor. It is an interesting story despite some of the shortcomings in character descriptions that would have required to make the book longer. I, like another reviewer, wish it had been “weirder.” Why monks of all people? Are kids going to want to read about monks?! It had some Game of Thrones vibes and could have been pushed further or just made it more fantasy style. It reminded me of the Wizard of Oz stories or the Girl Who Drank the Moon. I am partial to adventure voyages like this one. I never though I'd fall in love with a goat in a story, but Answelica is the literally the G.O.A.T. Along the way, she picks up partners who are there to fully support her and her endeavors to live. But the story of brave Beatryce who has a bounty on her life because of a prophecy, encounters danger at every turn, but shows some incredible wisdom for being a young person. Kate DiCamillo is a master storyteller and this one does not disappoint! The cover is a little strange, for me, as I question the desire for a child wanting to read a book with a monk on the cover. A lovely magical realism tale that reads like an adventure and I think would be a great read aloud for families. ![]()
